HOME AGAIN

This painting is a reflection on nostalgia, memory, and the places that continue to live within us long after we leave them behind. Old wooden windows and doors hold traces of time, figures on the bottom like the tea lady to the left, and others working in everyday professions represent the quiet rhythm of life in my home country.

    This painting explores the quiet tension between individuality and togetherness. The fragmented forms suggest that we rarely experience one another as complete or fully knowable.     In the aftermath of war, Sudan's once-thriving society lies in ruins. Communities are torn apart, infrastructure destroyed, and basic necessities scarce. Schools stand empty, homes abandoned, and poverty looms large. Yet, amidst the devastation, there is resilience—a determination to rebuild shattered lives and communities. Hope flickers in acts of solidarity, offering a beacon of light in the darkness of despair.

    Resurgence

    Millions of people have fled their homes since the war against civilians broke out in Khartoum spreading to other parts of Sudan. Escaping across the country’s borders mostly to Chad, Egypt. Ethiopia and South Sudan.

    The painting captures the resilience and sorrow of displacement, urging to bear witness and stand in solidarity with those rebuilding their lives amidst adversity.

    Held by Light reflects on the lives of people displaced and separated by war in Sudan. The figures represent families and communities scattered across unfamiliar places, carrying memories of home with them. The light becomes a symbol of hope, resilience, and the possibility of finding connection again despite loss and distance.

    Following the outbreak of conflict in Khartoum, numerous homes were subjected to raids and destruction. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) looted gold and money from banks, depriving the rightful owners of their possessions.
